WELLESLEY
Wellesley, Massachusetts | 84,000 SF | Renovation
With two locations in Wellesley, Massachusetts, the design team at GastingerWalker& was asked to consolidate the two Sun Life offices into one using an activity based workplace model. This renovation was multi-phased so that employees could still work in the building at all times. The floor plan included areas for visitors and conferencing on the first floor with the ‘Sun’ being the hub for all activity when you come in the entrance. An additional ‘porch’ of 6,000 SF was added off of the hub for outdoor space for employees to enjoy the outdoors with places to work, socialize, and sit by a fire. The rest of the workplace was designed for employees to engage in different activities throughout the day with increased areas for collaboration, respite, and creating a shared identity for Sun Life employees in this new building created as a destination place to work.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City, Missouri | 110,000 SF | Renovation/Tenant Improvements
Sun Life Financial has embraced the “work from anywhere” concept and is renovating all four floors of its regional headquarters to support workers utilizing their free address system. A large variety of available workspaces ranging from benching workstations and private phone rooms to collaboration nooks and large meeting rooms surround a few resident offices. All workstations have access to daylight around the building perimeter and a large, well-appointed work café designed for use by individuals and groups for dining, breaks, and collaborative work. All enclosed rooms feature glass fronts within a modular, demountable wall system, and room sizes are standardized wherever possible to allow for re-purposing rooms as needs evolve. The design team utilized corporate standards and restricts for programing, space planning, furniture, lighting, and architectural finishes, and combined them with new design elements unique to the Kansas City office.
