The renovation of the former Heim Brewery building in the Electric Park Neighborhood into a revitalized distillery with historical displays, event spaces, and gift shop while creating additional space in an existing adjacent warehouse for more barrel storage. Each event space has its own character rooted deeply in the history of J. Rieger & Co. Unique features include a slide and a glass room surrounded by barrels filled with aging whiskey, gin and vodka.

ELECTRIC PARK GARDEN BAR

Kansas City, Missouri | 11,000 SF | Historic Preservation/Building Addition/Renovation Adaptive Re-Use

After recently completing the renovation of the historic Heim Bottling Plant into the new home for local Kansas City distillery J. Rieger & Company, the brand’s visitor experience has now been extended into an indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant dubbed the Electric Park Garden Bar. The 11,000 SF garden-bar hybrid sits in a park-like setting on the historic grounds of the distillery’s loading dock, retrofitting a previously underutilized dead zone into inviting outdoor gathering spaces.

The project was designed as an urban park amongst its industrial surroundings, infusing greenery, lighting, and integrated seating into outdoor rooms that span various levels. The venue is also a celebration of the neighborhood’s historic amusement park built at the turn of the 20th century. A walk-up bar, food truck, and live music all playfully mimic the concession stands and carnival-like fare of the historic park while supplementing the existing distillery’s offerings.
