CommunityAmerica
LEE’S SUMMIT BRANCH
Lee’s Summit, Missouri | 2,800 SF | New Building
To create a ground-up, single story building with a separate drive-thru canopy, GastingerWalker& designed a “new” CommunityAmerica financial facility. The concept drew from an existing “Branch of the Future” prototype building design from CommunityAmerica. The selection of materials and detailing by the GastingerWalker& team simplified the exterior design elements and improved their existing space layout. A traditional letter line was replaced with self-service ATMs in the lobby to provide a user-friendly experience for the credit union’s members. The exterior window covering design mimicked the CommunityAmerica logo by utilizing and repeating a triangle in the filigree.
LEAVENWORTH BRANCH
Leavenworth, Kansas | 2,550 SF | New Building
Working off a previous prototype building, CommunityAmerica requested a reduced and efficient footprint, a lobby conducive to social interaction, and an interior material palette refresh. Our team built two branches concurrently - one in Grandview, MO, and one in Leavenworth, KS - designed as mirrored copies of one another to situate correctly on site. To optimize the site’s square footage and minimize costs, we were tasked with incorporating roof-top units and reducing the back-of-house layout. The exterior materials, including the iconic curved brick, prominent white tower, and wood-look fiber cement, are common elements in CommunityAmerica’s branches, providing familiarity for their members and the community. The open, inviting redesign of the branch emphasized CommunityAmerica’s commitment to personal, friendly service while providing self-service and private conversation options.
SOUTH PLAZA BRANCH
Kansas City, Missouri | 6,085 SF | Adaptive Reuse/Rehabilitation
Located in the South Plaza neighborhood, this rehabilitation and adaptive reuse project entailed creating a new branch by taking two separate buildings and combining them into one. This resulted in a congruous inviting space, by opening the wall between the two buildings and creating new circulation between the varying floor levels and spaces – with new stairs, accessible ramp, and a new elevator. The existing characteristics of the brick buildings were maintained and also enhanced with a new CACU entry tower, additional fenestration, and new roof deck.

CROSSROADS BRANCH
Kansas City, Missouri | 7,700 SF Commercial Lending/1,390 SF Branch | Adaptive Reuse/Rehabilitation
In searching for a centralized location for their commercial lending team, CommunityAmerica located an existing building in the Kansas City Crossroads ideal for their current and future needs. The existing historic building was renovated to house their expanding commercial lending group and also a new mini-branch credit union. The building façade along Walnut Street was updated to reflect their branding and to create prominence for separate building entries to their commercial and branch functions. A new walk-up ATM was built into a sidewalk-lined planter to accommodate the pedestrian-oriented neighborhood.
